BUILDING PROGRESS AT FORT JACQUES

Our vision of what will be built at Fort Jacques has changed over the last few years.  As we have researched what is best for the children, we have changed how we envision the new orphanage will look.  Instead of a large institutionalized building, we feel that small group homes will be better for the children's physical, and psychological growth and development.

So far, GLA has built two staff homes, a garage/shop, warehouse, and a barn for storage.   We have also started building our Toddler Homes.  Ten children with two care givers will be in each home.  There will also be a central school house with an all purpose room that will be used for a dining area and play area.

The Toddler Homes are just so cute and remind us of little Victorian homes.  Each home will be a different and bright color.  They are being built by Haitian masons and teams of volunteers from all over the world.  We hope to have the older children moved to Fort Jacques by the summer of 2013.
